Cellulite is a common problem with many misconceptions; from what causes cellulite, to what can cure or treat it and who is more likely to get it and where.
So before scheduling a cosmetic procedure, putting blame, or spending a fortune on over the counter products, read through to the true story behind cellulite.
Women are much more likely to suffer from cellulite than men – True
This is true and I’ve written about it in more detail here. We women tend to have a high body fat percentage than men (obviously not true in all cases – there are loads of fat men, but this is more to do with the structure of your body than being fat) and crucially have less supporting connective tissue. “If you consider a scaffolding outside a building which has those X crosses on them, which is sort of what men’s fat chambers have,” says David McDaniel, MD, director of the Institute for Anti-Aging and assistant professor of clinical dermatology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. It’s estimated that about 10% of men have problems with cellulite, at the same time.
Cellulite gets worse with age – True
Hormones also appear to play a role in the look of cellulite: As women age, their bodies produce less estrogen–a hormone which helps keep blood vessels flowing easily.
