I’ve written much more extensivly about the causes of cellulite and some of the best and most effective naural cures and treatments here.  However, for those of you who like lists – here are the top ten things you need to know about cellulite.

But enough of that – how do you get rid of it?  One of the most effective methods of getting rid of cellulite (for virtually anyone) is exercises.  However, you need to do the right kind of exercises (not the power lifting / bodybuilding kind for a start) and I’m going to go through some simple things you can do to reduce the appearance of cellulite on your body in this post.

I you are interested in a comprehensive program to virtually cure cellulite in as little as a month then I recommend this guide.  Otherwise please read on.

There are three steps:

  1. Walk it
  2. Work it
  3. Diet

Walk it!

Walking is a good cellulite busting exercise and thankfully it’s easy to do, plus you don’ need a gym and can easily fit it in with the rest of your day.  Walking is also a good way to lose weight and improve your health.  It’s about the easiest exercises you can start off with.

You’ll need to walk 2-3 miles per day and do this for 5-6 days per week.  This will be enough to get started eliminating that cellulite and also could help you shed a surprising amount of weight.  It’s important to walk briskly, but there is no need to over do it – you’re not training for a marathon or to enter the 100m.

After your brisk walk, you’ll need to d a simple home workout routine too – which is really rather like a series of stretches.

Work Out!

This is the second stage – the work out.  These are some simple exercises to be performed after your 2-3 mile walk.  Please note, this is just one simple routine – there are full cellulite busting workout and diet programs out there, some of which are highly recommended.

The core exercises I would suggest to someone who is just starting would be the following, however, there are many more you can try that will work just as well or better.

  1. Thigh raise
  2. Seated knee stretch
  3. Kick kick
  4. Pony Kick
  5. Ballet thigh
  6. Thigh chair

Do each in the above order, holding the position for about 15 seconds for each leg for the first five, and for 20 seconds on the final (in which you use both legs at the same time).

Diet!

The last phase is the diet phase.  Cellulite is fat trapped under the skin, yet is is not reduced or cured with dieting alone.  However, the right diet alongside a good exercises program should make a significant difference when followed correctly.

Below is a suggested calorie intake for those looking to lose wight alongside getting rid of cellulite.

Some men do get cellulite

Indeed it is true that some men do suffer from cellulite, but it is very rare.  Until recently, it was believed that many of the men who suffer from cellulite are those who have unusually high estrogen levels.  However, more and more men who are not in this situation are noticing the condition on their bodies – even enough to warrant a mention in the Daily Mail!

However, men are still much, much less likely to get cellulite than women.  It seems this will always be the case.  But why is it so?

Why don’t men get cellulite?

There are, broadly speaking, three key reasons that women get cellulite while men do not – even men with poor diets and more than a desirable amount of fat on their bodies (note – it does not necessarily have anything to do with the amount of fat on your body, even women with a low body fat percentage can suffer from cellulite).

  1.  Men have different formation of connective tissue to women.  Cellulite is lumpy fat caught below the surface of the skin – men do not get this because fat beneath the skin on a man’s body does not bulge in the same way, due to the difference in connective tissues.
  2. The areas of the body that attract cellulite the most are the hips, thighs and bottom.  Male hormones tend to make the excess fat the body stores deposit elsewhere – such as around the stomach.
  3. Men have thicker outer skin than women.  While this is not true for all men, most will have a thicker layer of outer skin, which prevents the fat below the surface from showing as much.

* Notice that only one of the three key reasons is directly a result of male hormones.

What does this tell us about cellulite?

Nothing that useful at the moment unfortunately if your goal is to get rid of it.  Even reducing the amount of estrogen and increasing the amount of testosterone in your body (not something many women will want to do!) will not help.

Many believe, and I am one of them, that the best way to get rid of (or at least reduce the appearance of) cellulite is through the right kind of exercises.

Despite what we’ve said about men being less likely to get cellulite, the best exercises are not male-orientated bodybuilding ones but a program of light but effective toning exercises targeted to reduce cellulite in the areas of the body it most often occurs.
